Today Aubrey had her adenoids out and tubes put in her ears. From the time she was born she was snorty. The poor baby never could breathe. When she plays it sounds like she is running a mile and she can't catch a breath. She has had four ear infections and two sinus infections in the last year. She also snores horribly. Aubrey can;t clear a cold the way normal kids can. After countless visits to the doctor through the first year I finally was referred the the ENT. He took one look and listen to her and suggested removing the adenoids and putting tubes in her ears. He thought she might have big adenoids. So today at 8:30 my brave little munchkins went COMPLETELY under. Not just semi under the way they do it for tubes. She was DEEP DEEP asleep. The surgery took 45 minutes and the doctor brought out pictures. Two of them showed her nasal openings and you could see the adenoids were COMPLETELY obstructing her breathing. He was surprised that they were that big given her age. He suspects it was a structural problem that was present since birth. She recovered really well. The 45 minutes after surgery were HORRIBLE. She was so disoriented from being put under that she just sobbed continuously until we left the hospital. But it was well worth it and hopefully she will start to breathe easier soon! Here are some pictures from that day.
That sucks :( It's so hard to see your little one like that. When Luke was maybe 8 months he had to be put under for an MRI, it was terrible... at least I was able to be at his side.. ugh. And when he was 6 months old we were in the ER where they immediately put oxygen on him... talk about terrifying.. I am so glad she's feeling better!!! ;-) Hopefully no more ear infections! yay!
